ROH News - May 17th 2012

This past weekend at Border Wars, Adam Cole went up against Michael Elgin in a battle of two of the hottest rising stars in ROH today. Although Adam would not get the win, he has said that he will pick himself up and bounce back strong!

This Friday is the Ring Of Honor Wrestling Tapings, and Adam will be facing "No Fear" Mike Mondo. So look out for that on a future episode.

The following day, Adam will be taking on "The Dominant Male" Tommaso Ciampa (with The Embassy LTD). Both men ended "Border Wars" with a check in the lose column, so both will be wanting to make a statement.

The following night, Adam took on Jake Crist in CZW's Cinco De Mayo, but the match would not go to plan as DJ Hyde came out and laid both men out. Photos coming soon!

Top Contenders Collide (from ROHWrestling.com) - May 1st 2012

They are the two men who have without a doubt had the best year of their wrestling careers thus far in 2012.  For "Unbreakable" Michael Elgin it really started with his epic victory at "Survival of the Fittest 2011" that earned him a future ROH World Title Match that he is still in possession of.  From that point he has amassed a great record, defeating, amongst others, Chris Hero, Adam Cole, & TJ Perkins, and having the match of his life against Davey Richards at "Showdown in the Sun – Day 2".

Adam Cole, on the other hand, has not accumulated the greatest win-loss record this year, but he has established himself as a "never say die" fighter in the same vein as his sometime-partner "Die Hard" Eddie Edward.  Starting with his brutal No Holds Barred fight with Roderick Strong in January, Cole has quietly proved himself as tough as they come, and at the "10th Anniversary Event" when he pinned ROH World Champion Davey Richards in the tag team main event, his arrival was declared quite loudly.  Follow that up with a tremendous performance this last weekend in Dayton in his World Title bout against Davey, and one can certainly say that Adam Cole has arrived.

Now these two men will collide at "Border Wars" on May 12th in a battle of the top hottest stars in Ring of Honor!

"Elgin and I are quite familiar with one another." Said Adam Cole to ROHWrestling.com, "We have fought each other tooth and nail since several times since we both came into ROH. Each time we take the measure of one another and each time we are both feeling it for weeks to follow. It's always a physical war but it is one I look forward to every time.  The last time Elgin won, and it’s safe to say that both of our careers have taken interesting turns in the months since that fight.  I see Elgin and what’s going on with the House of Truth and honestly I'm hoping he wakes up and realizes that they need him, Roderick needs him, more than Elgin needs the HoT.  Whichever way the chips may fall Elgin, I know I'm in for another fight in Canada."

While it's true the House of Truth seems to be having some issues, Truth Martini assured ROHWrestling.com that all was fine in his House but that was as much as he would offer so we will have to wait and see what the future holds there. Regardless of their internal strife, it is Elgin vs. Cole at "Border Wars" on May 12th!  Tickets are available here

ROH Results - May 1st 2012

Adam wrestled for Ring Of Honor this past weekend, at "Unity" on the 28th at Chicago, IL, he teamed with TJP and Jay Lethal to take on The Colony. This match was contested under Lucha Rules and was CHIKARA's PJ Drummond won the right to be the ref after a coin toss. The Colony won after Fire Ant pinned TJP.

The next night in Dayton it was the biggest match of Adam's career, he faced Davey Richards for the ROH World title. It was a hard hitting match, which saw Adam surviving a Double Foot Stomp while laid on the announce table. Davey would get the win via submission with a Indian Deathlock version of the Ankle Lock.

After the match, Davey showed Adam respect and said that he had arrived as a main eventer.

Best Of The Best Results: Adam Cole def. Tony Nese w/ DJ Hyde
The man who won last year's Best of the Best Tournament, Adam Cole, was unfortunately not invited to participate in this year’s thanks to his former mentor, DJ Hyde. Instead DJ Hyde introduced the crowd to his new upgraded protégé, Tony Nese. Despite Nese’s best efforts, Adam Cole walked away from the match with the victory. Following the match, Cole made it quite clear that he is still "the best in the world" and when people look back at his career they will call him "the greatest of all time!"

(the following is from czwrestling.com)

Friday’s CZW Newsletter released TONS of information regarding CZW’s return to Indiana.  One of the matches CZW Officials has confirmed will feature former Champions. The former longest reigning CZW Junior Heavyweight Champion and Best of the Best X winner, Adam Cole, will face the former CZW Wired Champion and Midwest Native, Jake Crist!

One year ago, both men made their names in the Combat Zone with the respective appearances in Best of the Best X.  Unfortunately for both, one year later they have both lost their respective titles to men they waged war with for the duration of that year.  For Jake Crist, he returns to the area he made his name…  The Midwest.  Unfortunately for Crist, he returns to that relative hometown crowd with his tail between his legs after losing the Wired Championship to his brother, Dave Crist.  But what a career boost it would be for Crist should he be able to defeat the former longest reigning CZW Junior Heavyweight Champion and Best of the Best X winner?

Adam Cole hasn’t seen a championship opportunity in the Combat Zone in over THREE MONTHS!  One year ago, Cole had to turn down championship matches because of how full his schedule was.  Unlike Crist, Cole has been without a championship since November and has already hopped back on the proverbial horse in recent months.  Last month, Cole proclaimed he will become the most talked about wrestler in the history of the wrestling industry when his career is over.  If Cole can take out the former Wired Champion, he would surely have to be in line for some sort of Championship opportunity!

The only way to see this match is LIVE and IN PERSON at the Bloomington National Guard Armory in Bloomington, IN.  Visit the CZW Pro Shop NOW to get your tickets to CZW Cinco De Mayo!  You can also join in the conversation of this match by “Liking” CZW on Facebook or by Following CZW on Twitter @combatzone #CZWCincodeMayo.

ROH Showdown In The Sun - Day 2

News Round Up - April 11th 2012

It has been announced that Adam Cole and Kyle O'Reilly will be taking on "The Dynasty", Joey Ryan and Scorpio Sky in a first round match up of the annual DDT4 event. Can Future Shock make it through to the second round?

ROH & CHIKARA officials have now signed a Trios Match for "Unity" pitting 3 men from ROH against 3...men...from CHIKARA!  The bout will be contested under Lucha Rules, meaning no tags are necessary, as soon as one man leaves the ring another man from his team can take up the action, and that could weigh the balance in the favor of the team representing CHIKARA: The Colony! Consisting of Fire Ant, Soldier Ant, and Green Ant, these insectoid grapplers have achieved championship success in CHIKARA with Fire Ant reigning as Young Lions Cup in the past and the duo of Fire & Solider holding the Campeonatos de Parejas as well.  This is a unit well versed in Trios wrestling, one who has meshed together quite well for some time now.

On the ROH side of things though it is the exact opposite; although officials have formed a trio quite talented in their own right, none of these men have teamed with each other in the past and that could prove the difference.  Former ROH TV Champion Jay Lethal, Adam Cole, and "Technical Lightning" TJ Perkins will team up to represent Ring of Honor that night, and although Perkins holds a victor over Fire Ant at "Showdown in the Sun – Day 2", one must figure the odds are certainly in the favor of CHIKARA...

"I know the CHIKARA group is the odds on favorite." said Adam Cole, "The Colony has been a group for awhile, they know each other so well it's probably like one hive mind, that's their strongest trait.  Jay, TJ, and I...we've never done this, we've never stood side by side and fought as partners, and we certainly don't know how one another is thinking.  That is the odds on advantage that they have, but what the three of us do know, and know quite well, is how to defy the odds.  See, this is about more than the three of us as individuals; this is about representing Ring of Honor, and representing it as winners. That is something we all take seriously and that is what we are bringing to Unity."

It's CHIKARA vs. ROH at "Unity" on April 28th!  Trios actions usually leads to a bit of insanity so strap yourselves in for some exciting action inside The Frontier Fieldhouse!  Jay Lethal, Adam Cole, & TJ Perkins vs. The Colony (Fire Ant, Soldier Ant, & Green Ant)!  Get your tickets now.

The following night is Adam's "Proving Ground" match for a chance at the ROH World Title, well...it was a proving ground match, Davey Richards thinks that Adam has already earned a title shot by pinning him at "Young Wolves Rising". Here is what Davey had to say:

Proving Ground - April 4th 2012

(from ROHwrestling.com)

On March 5th, live on iPPV at the "10th Anniversary Event", it was "Young Wolves Rising" as Adam Cole & Kyle O'Reilly stepped into the main event to team with Eddie Edwards & ROH World Champion Davey Richards respectively.

On a historic night, in such a high pressure situation, both Cole & O'Reilly stepped up to the plate but it was Adam who knocked it out of the park when he shocked the world and pinned Davey Richards to win the match for his team!

Adam Cole who, quite honestly, has impressed everyone during his ROH tenure but had yet to pick up that one big win, scored the biggest victory he possibly could have (without actually capturing a title) by pinning the World Champion.  In the fallout of the match Richards congratulated Cole and shook his hand.

Well when ROH returns to Dayton, OH on April 29th, things will certainly be looking up for Adam Cole as he steps into The Proving Ground with ROH World Champion Davey Richards!  This is Adam's chance to prove to the world, and most importantly to himself, that his pin on Davey wasn't a fluke or a once in a lifetime moment.  If he defeats Richards or lasts the time limit, then Adam will receive a future ROH World Title match.

"Ft. Lauderdale was a mixed bag for me." said Cole to ROHWrestling.com, "I had a huge first night on Friday with my win but then with the way things went down in my match with Kyle, the way he cheated to win, it was honestly kind of a buzzkill. With a TV Title match in my immediate future, and now this match with Davey presented to me, well I think it will be easy to put that all behind me. Davey, you had the decency to show me respect in New York, something that my former tag team partner didn't, and for that I thank you because, well, my respect for you as a wrestler runs deep.  But you're the champion, you're my opponent, and respect isn't going to win me this Proving Ground match. I said things are heading up for Adam Cole and this is that point where I put up or shut up.  I know some of the world thinks my pin on Davey was a fluke, this is that chance to prove otherwise to myself, to them, to Davey, and yeah...to you too Kyle. If you can still look me in the eye and spit in my face after I beat Davey, well then you're not the man I thought you were.  Sadly, you probably never were."

It's ROH World Champion Davey Richards vs. Adam Cole in a Proving Ground Match on April 29th in Dayton, OH!  Cole could head into this one as the World TV Champion as well if he can bring Roderick's title reign to an early end on Saturday in Baltimore.

Tickets for our return to Dayton at the Hara Arena are available starting at $15 right here

News Round-Up - March 20th 2012

Has Adam been busy since his ROH 10th Anniversary win or what?

On March 10th 2012 at Aerial Assault, The Panama City Playboy Adam Cole took on the CZW Ultraviolent Underground Champion - Masada.

Despite interference from "The Boss" DJ Hyde, Masada took the win after the Murderplex. Adam and DJ had words after the match. Although Madada's night wasn't finished - he went on to become a double champion by winning the CZW World Title.

Later that night, Adam's Girlfriend, Mia Yim, won a hard fought Tables-Ladders-Chairs Match against Greg Excellent. After the battle, Mia and Greg embraced as a sign of respect, upon seeing this, DJ Hyde Chokeslammed Mia!

Following his loss to Masada, Adam went on his first tour of Japan, results coming soon.

Last week on Ring Of Honor Wrestling, In a "Blind Destiny" match, in a rematch from "ROH Underground", Kevin Steen defeated Adam Cole. This week Adam takes on “The Psychedelic Superstar” Chris Silvio.

(from rohwrestling.com

"For the majority of their ROH careers, Adam Cole & Kyle O'Reilly have been synonymous with one another as the tag team Future Shock.  They climbed the ranks together, battled for the World Tag Titles together against WGTT, and most fans thought they would eventually claim those belts together.  But the closing months of 2011, and in particular the ROH World Title match between Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards at "Final Battle 2011" seemed to cause Kyle to drift closer to Team Richards.

Still, Future Shock battled as a team in the Tag Gauntlet that December night but were unsuccessful in their bid for a title shot when they were eliminated by the eventual winners, The Young Bucks.  Yet with the dawn of the New Year, the wedge between the two men grew, and despite their tag team bout with WGTT at "The Homecoming 2012", it seemed evident that they were not on the same page.

This notion was further cemented when Davey & Kyle united as a team to fight The House of Truth at "ROH Underground" in a match where the winner would receive a Tag Title Match.  The newly christened Team Ambition successfully won that bout, but were not as fortunate at "Rise & Prove" when they lost to The Briscoes in said title match.

While Kyle's focus turned towards his partnership with Davey, Eddie Edwards reached out to Adam Cole after Cole stepped up in his stead at "The Homecoming 2012" in the scheduled No Holds Barred match with Roderick Strong.  Edwards, suffering from a serious staph infection, was ruled unable to compete by the doctors so Cole took the match upon himself.  Adam lost in a brutal fight that saw Eddie get involved to stem the interference of Michael Elgin, but Cole's effort earned a standing ovation from the notoriously critical Philly fans.

In the face of his dissolving partnership, as well as friendship, with O'Reilly, Cole accepted the offer of Edwards to form a duo of their own which ultimately led to the "Young Wolves Rising" tag team match that headlined the "10th Anniversary Event": Edwards/Cole vs. Richards/O’Reilly.  It was a special affair, especially for Adam & Kyle, made even more so when Adam pinned the ROH World Champion to win the match for his team!  Following the bell, to the shock of many (no pun intended); Kyle refused to shake the hands of Eddie or Adam and flat out told his former partner that he did not respect him.

Then this week on "Ring of Honor Wrestling" TV, following Cole's defeat of Chris Silvio, Kyle came out and issued the challenge for Adam to meet him, one-on-one, on March 31st.  Cole readily accepted...

"I'm tired of Kyle's whiny attitude to be honest." said Cole to ROHWrestling.com, "Something changed with him over the last few months and I'm honestly not liking what I'm seeing. If this is the influence Team Richards has on you, then I am glad to have no part of it.  It was one thing to not shake my hand in New York Kyle, I can understand being a bit frustrated after a loss, but to tell me you don’t respect me after everything we've been through, after the fights we've had together, that's a whole new side of you, an ugly side at that. In Ft. Lauderdale, I'll be glad to beat some respect into you if that's what it takes to wake you up, to snap you out of whatever this is you’re going through."

It's O'Reilly vs. Cole at "Showdown in the Sun - Day 2"!  Future Shock collides on March 31st at The War Memorial Auditorium and you can still get your tickets right here!  Can't be there live? Then order the iPPV broadcast right here!"

Adam's former ROH partner Kyle O'Reilly will be challenging for the TV Title at Showdown in the Sun - Day 2. And the winner of that, either Kyle or current champion Jay Lethal, will defend against Adam at the ROH TV Tapings on April 7th! Can Adam win gold?

Future Shock have been announced as a team in the PWG DDT4! More details soon!

ROH 10th Anniversary Results - March 5th 2012

March 4th 2012 was Adam Cole's first main event on a Ring Of Honor iPPV. The former Future Shock member teamed up with former American Wolves member "Die Hard" Eddie Edward to take on former American Wolves member and ROH World Heavyweight champion Davey Richards and his partner, former Future Shock memeber Kyle O' Reilly. Here is an in-depth look at the match, thanks to PWInsider.com

01.jpg

"Cole and Kyle started off but before they could lock up, Richards tagged himself in.  Richards backed him into the corner and there was a clean break.   Richards brought hm down to the mat, working over his arm.  They went back and forth with some nice reversals, until Cole dropkicked Richards.   Richards shoulderblocked him down, but was caught in a sunset flip.  They went into a series of reversals leading to Cole going for a kick but Richards evaded.  They faced off.

They tagged out to their partners.   They went into a knucklelock test of strength and began headbutting each other.  Edwards took him down to the mat for a near fall.   They went back and forth until Kyle caught him with an armbar.  Edwards turned that into a leg submission and they finally faced off.  Cole tagged in as did Richards.

Richards began tagging Cole with a series of kicks to the chest.   They went back and forth until Richards nailed a dropkick as Cole was rebounding off the ropes.   Kyle tagged in and he drilled Cole, who came back with a series of shoulderblocks.  Kyle cut him off with a back suplex and tagged Richards.  He cinched in an Indian Death Lock.   Edwards and Richards tagged in and they went back and forth.  Richards drilled Edwards with a running forearm, then hit a dive to the outside on Cole.  Edwards nailed a back suplex off the ropes but Eddie fought out of it.   He and Kyle went back and forth, killing each other with disgustingly stiff chops.

Kyle began throwing some stuff kicks.  Edwards chopped him in the neck and went for another but Kyle blocked and hit a sick back suplex for a two count.   Cole tagged in and tried to roll up Kyle, who shoved him off.  Cole nailed a leg lariat fora two count.   Cole caught Kyle on the ropes and slammed him for a two count.  They battled back and forth with forearms.   Cole was caught with a leaping knee and Richards leapt into the ring and drilled him with a kick for a two count.

Richards locked in the Texas Cloverleaf.  Edwards was trying to interfere so Kyle warded him off and assisted in the submission.    Kyle began doing a series of rolling butterfly suplexes for a two count.   Cole fired back against Richards and Kyle.  Richards went for an enziguiri but Cole ducked and Kyle was nailed.  Cole maneuvered Kyle into DDTing Davey.  Edwards tagged in and nailed a leaping missile dropkick on both.  He worked over Davey with a brainbuster for a two count.

They battled back and forth.  Edwards backdropped his own partner over the top on Davey and Kyle on the floor.   Edwards and Richards returned  to the ring.  Richards went to the top but was kicked by Edwards and superplexed off.  Cole hit a top rope splash and Edwards covered him for a two count.  Richards fired back with several elbows to the neck but was flipped over with a suplex into a sitdown slam for another two count.  Cole and Edwards went for the American Wolves finisher but Richards fought them off and rolled through with an anklelock on Cole.  Edwards went to break it but Kyle attacked him and locked on a submission.  It tuirned into several reversals, leading into the former Wolves locked on submissions while face to face and slapping the hell out of each other.

Cole and Kyle grabbed their opponents and nailed back suplexes, then traded vicious strikes and punches.   Cole then hit a nasty looking Cactus clothesline to the outside.  Richards and Edwards began exchanging strikes and kicks, laying each other out.   They made the tag to Cole and Kyle, who faced off.   They charged each other with kicks, mirroring each other.  They went for suplexes on Edwards and Richards but it was reversed with all four tumbling out of the ring to the floor.

All four battered men returned to the ring.  Cole and Richards battling in one corner, Edwards and Kyle in the other. Richards and Eddie kept trying to one up each other with chops and kicks.   They then faced off in the center of the ring, chopping and kicking each other stiffly.    Richards nailed a sick clothesline that folded Edwards upside down in half.  This left Kyle and Cole to battle it out with sick slaps, kicks and chops, with Cole finally getting the best of it and a near fall.  Cole kicked Richards off the apron.  He and Edwards used a lungblower into a backstabber for another two count on Kyle.

Kyle fought back with kicks on both his opponents but was nailed off the top with a sitdown F5 off the top.   Cole covered Kyle but Richards dove in to break up the pinfall.   Edwards whipped Cole into Kyle who kicked him off, then sent Edwards to the floor.  Kyle nailed the leaping knee off the apron on Eddie.  Richards nailed a double stomp on Cole, who kicked out.  Cole was drilled with several kicks until a punt to the face and a back suplex but kicked out again.

Richards slapped him but Cole kicked him.  Kyle nailed a brainbuster on him as Richards kicked him.  Edwards broke it up and nailed a top rope stomp on Richards.  Cole superkicked Richards in mid-air.  They nailed the Wolves old finish on Richards for another two count.  Edwards and Richards battled on the top rope.  Richards fought him off but Edwards nailed a running knee and hit a top rope rana into the ring.  Edwards powerbombed Richards onto Cole's knees but it went wrong.  The crowd knew it too.  Kyle hit the scene for the save and slapped them but both Cole and Eddie hit a double big boot to the face.   Edwards went for a powerbomb, but saw Cole hit a tornado DDT onto Kyle off the apron to the floor.

Richards small packaged him for a two count.  They went into a series of reversals.   Edwards went for the codebreaker off the second rope but Richards turned it into a anklelock.  Cole tagged in and nailed a bodypress off the ropes and pinned Richards, shocking the crowd.

Your winners, Adam Cole & Eddie Edwards!

Richards took the mic and started to speak but stopped.  He then congratulated Cole on getting the win.   They shook hands and faced off.   Kyle refused and said he doesn't shake hands with anyone he doesn't respect.   Richards got mad."

ROH 10th Anniversary Articles - March 3rd 2012

Our good friend Lee Goodfellow of Indy Wrestling Express has written an article on the upcoming ROH 10th Anniversary Show this Sunday.

This Sunday, Adam Cole will take part in one of the biggest matches of his career to date, as he will team up with Eddie Edwards to take on Davey Richards and Kyle O'Reilly, at the Ring Of Honor 10th Anniversary Show. As you may know, O'Reilly was Adam's tag team partner in Future Shock, so why will they be on opposite ends of the ring? READ MORE...

Also, Ring Of Honor have this to say on the main event:

The story of Richards & Edwards is well-known; their trilogy of matches is a modern classic as they've battled over both the TV Title & World Title with Richards winning the most recent bout at "Final Battle 2011".  There's been tension, dissension, and distrust, but at the end of that last clash they shook hand and embraced like the brothers they have been more so many years.

On the other hand, Kyle O'Reilly and Adam Cole have a much shorter history as Future Shock, one not filled with the great successes of The American Wolves, and while they have bonded over their time as a team, their relationship was nowhere near as strong as that of The Wolves.  So when Kyle began gravitating more towards Davey Richards as a training partner, when he elected to shine a spotlight on Edwards' deception in the Dan Severn situation, it illuminated an aspect of the Richards/O'Reilly relationship thus far unseen.  Kyle's bond with Davey as both friend & training partner was obviously stronger than his relationship with Cole and as such, it seemed that O'Reilly was also receiving a share of Davey's spotlight, leaving his Future Shock partner in the shadows.

So between Davey & Kyle teaming at "ROH Underground" in Richmond to earn a shot at the ROH World Tag Titles, uniting on "Ring of Honor Wrestling" TV, and battling The Briscoes at "Rise & Prove" in Cincinnati, it certainly appeared that O'Reilly had left Future Shock in his past, and Adam Cole in his rearview mirror.

In the meantime, Cole didn't just sit on his laurels, waiting for something to happen, rather he stepped up to the plate at "The Homecoming 2012" against Roderick Strong, taking Eddie's place in a No DQ match AFTER he already fought Haas & Benjamin earlier in the night.  He lost, but a standing ovation from the fans showcased just how hard he fought.  The next night, while Team Richards fought over a title shot, Cole took on Kevin Steen, again in a losing effort, but the involvement of Edwards in both bouts showcased a growing bond of respect between the two men.  That bond came to a head on "Ring of Honor Wrestling" TV when Edwards officially offered Cole a partnership with someone who actually respected him and wasn't just killing time, waiting to become an American Wolf with Davey (to paraphrase Eddie).  That's what brought us here to "Young Wolves Rising" as Cole & O'Reilly team with Edwards & Richards respectively to prove themselves deserving of that top tier slot.  Eddie & Davey have done this dance many times over; they know each other as well as anybody and a battle between the two of them can go either way.  Adam & Kyle are the x-factors in this bout and the weight of the world is on their shoulders in NYC...as both men intimated in their respective blogs, this is their opportunity to shine, to prove themselves, and rise to the top...
