On April 19th, we present SECOND TO NONE. The entire night is shaping up to be huge - Nigel McGuinness has already scheduled a street fight grudge match and a must-see rematch between AJ Styles and Michael Elgin.
But we can now confirm another contest: the return of DEFY OR DENY.
At "Second to None," three men will be looking to earn the ultimate second chance at ROH gold while another looks to deny them. Current ROH World Champion Adam Cole takes on Mark Briscoe AND Matt Taven AND Jimmy Jacobs in one match! Each of these men have had a previous shot at Cole's title. But in Baltimore, the stakes are raised again.
If Briscoe, Taven, or Jacobs gets the win in Baltimore, he is guaranteed a future shot at the ROH World Title. However, if Adam Cole secures the win, whoever he defeats will be DENIED from any future World Title matches for as long as Cole is champion!
One more twist: Defy or Deny will be contested under ELIMINATION RULES! That means you must truly survive the match to earn your title opportunity. In the end, who will be the last man standing?
In Ring of Honor, title opportunities are not handed out easily. Each of these men has taken Adam Cole to the limit in recent months. While they were not successful at defeating him for the title, they all proved they are championship material and deserve another opportunity to EARN a title match.
Defy or Deny pits them all against each other to see who wants it most!
Mark Briscoe had his brother Jay's back the entire time he's been battling Adam Cole. It would be especially sweet for Mark to finally topple the champion after so many months. Meanwhile, Matt Taven has been working overtime to prove he has what it takes to go it alone and join the top ranks of ROH. Some were writing off his first title shot as an easy night for Cole - until Taven proved them wrong and nearly took the belt. Finally, Jimmy Jacobs claims he's been denied opportunities in ROH and held down from success. April 19th is his chance to launch himself back into the title picture.
Adam Cole is coming off Supercard of Honor's Ladder War V as the undisputed ROH World Champion. The match was incredibly violent and in the end, Cole grabbed both his and Jay Briscoe's titles. Despite any criticism of his methods or attitude, after this Ladder War, Adam Cole has proven himself to be one of the toughest champions in ROH history. If he has any chance to deny his potential challengers, you know he's going to take it.
Each of these challengers have faced Adam Cole before. And in defeat, they became even more determined. You can't get that close to the ROH World Title without experiencing a moment of "that should be me" - and on April 19th, one of them could be denied for the rest of Adam Cole's reign. Who will defy the odds of an elimination match and secure his future?
